2002:  We had 2 different gaming get-togethers in the SF Bay Area in 2002 - one in early January & another in early October.  I took some video at both gatherings, which I'm working to upload & post here.   In the meantime, I've put together some screencaps, which are available by clicking HERE or on the image at left.

Douglas Locke Miers

Douglas Locke Miers, RoacKing
1963 - 2005

January-February 2005:  We were all shocked to learn that our good friend and RoachKing brother, Douglas Locke Miers, had suffered a sudden heart attack and died on January 29th.  He had been roller-blading with a friend & bandmate when the incident occured.

In mid-February, many of us (including Jim DeVito, Tom Alden, Phillip Alden, Kevin Wilson, Charlie Hail & Bambi Moseley) gathered in Santa Clara, CA, with Lisa & Valerie and some of his extended family to remember Doug.  Members of both of his bands were in attendance as well.  Click HERE or on the image above right to see the "Tribute Page" for Doug . . .

August 2007: Several of us (Kevin Wilson, Phillip Alden, Matthew Schiernbeck, Jeff F@rr & Charlie Hail) gathered in Mountain View, CA, on August 1st for a Rush concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre.  We also enjoyed several days of  RK gaming.  Click HERE or on the image at right for more pics . . .

Adam Dunn
Adam Padraig Dunn, RoachKing
1965 - 2010

However, we also got some tragic news this month.  Shag contacted Adam Dunn through Facebook around March 16th.  By the 18th, Adam had confirmed a couple of us as friends on his Facebook page.  Unfortunately, we later learned from his sister that Adam Padraig Dunn passed away on March 19th, 2010.

We all were saddened by his passing and frustrated that it came just days after finally finding him again.  Click HERE or on the image above right to see the "Tribute Page" for Adam . . .

April 2010: Several of us (Kevin Wilson, Phillip Alden, Jeff F@rr & Charlie Hail) gathered in San Jose, CA, and visited the Tech Museum to see the Star Trek Exhibit.  We also caught up with an old friend - Mark Jutson.  Click HERE or on the image at right to see more pics . . .

August 2010: On August 9th, Rush once again played the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, and once again the RoachKings (Kevin Wilson, Phillip Alden & Charlie Hail) were there.  The video intros were great, the set list was phenomenal and an incredible time was had by all.  In addition, we managed a short RPG session, during which Jeff F@rr joined us and Shag & Charles Wellington played via Skype.  Click HERE or on the image at right to see the pics . . .

September - October 2010: More tragic news - for the second time this year, we've lost a RoachKing.  On Sunday, October 3rd, we learned that Matthew "Shaggy" Schiernbeck had passed away some time earlier in the week at his apartment in Austin, TX.  His passing leaves us saddened and confused.  .

Shag was the original, and it's safe to say that the RoachKings will never be the same without him.  Click HERE or on the image above right to see the "Tribute Page" for Matthew . .

Eleven people gathered at Tom Alden's home just south of Austin, Texas, on October 22nd to share stories & memories of Shag.  Those in attendance included Tom Alden (as well as his wife Susie & his son Hollis,) Mark Baumann (& his fiance Myrna,) Adam Brickman, Nathaniel Elliot, Bill Bush, Mark Pipkins & Angel Mesa, and Charlie Hail.

May 25, 2011:  Six of us gathered on the Central California Coast for a barbecue lunch and to remember Matthew "Shaggy" Schiernbeck.  We then caravaned to Morro Bay, where we rented a small boat and headed out.  In attendance were Jeff F@rr, Jim DeVito, Kevin Wilson, Phillip Alden, Stew Brown & Charlie Hail.   With the Morro Bay "Rock" as backdrop, we took turns scattering Shag's ashes on the waters of the Pacific.  When we were finished, we circled back and were all intrigued by a gathering of 4 otters on the water's surface in the same spot where we had just scattered the ashes.  They were floating face-up in a row, waving to us as if to say, "We've got him from here, RoachKings."  We all watched with curiosity as they scampered about in the water until we were out of visual range.  We all agreed that Shag was finally at peace.
