The
Epic Begins
For
as long as ships have sailed the seas of any world . . . for as
long as there have been ports of call where those seas reach the
shore . . . and for as long as those ports have furnished inns
& taverns into which sailors & pirates could stagger to
spend their pay or booty, this story has unfolded: Mercenaries
and swashbucklers from far-flung parts of the world meet by chance
with others of their ilk and they forge alliances that lead to
wondrous adventures none of them foresaw. And so it was, on the
world of Lia, in the spring of the year 11333, in a tavern in
the port town of Görbén ("gor-BEN.") On
that fateful day, a brilliant young Illusionist named Salád
DaJaro met a brash young fighter named Amblinon & a wild elf
named Twinkle and they hit it off. Salád was a newcomer
to town, having traveled from an exotic land far to the south;
Amblinon had grown up in the surrounding farmlands, where he had
learned to swing an axe with some skill; Twinkle was just passing
through on his travels from the Drawberry Wood. They decided to
take their chances together and seek their fortune & fame as adventurers.
This chance meeting would lead to a decades-long association that
would reach epic proportions.

The
Barony of Gönham
Much
of the Bráish Barony of Gönham ("GON-um") offers a
somewhat inhospitable environment, and the people who live there
are widely seen as much the same. The climate is dominated by
cold winds from the northeast (no doubt influenced by the great
Storm Giant & Cloud Giant Clans of Northern Maloria.) Of course,
the growing season is short due to the high latitude, but the
cold currents of the Icy Ocean and the rocky soil serve to limit
even further the range of crops that can be grown here. Nevertheless,
despite the fact that production is minimal and the farmers are
very poor, the Baron Von Gönham requires that a certain amount
of land surrounding his capital of Görbén be cultivated.
Even on the relatively fertile Gönham Plains south of Görbén,
farmers require large amounts of acreage to make a living. To
promote settlement, the Bráish king has granted unusually
large tracts of land in this area. This environment has bred a
population that is hearty & self-reliant, with a strong independent
spirit. They are known in other parts of the world (whether deservedly
or not) for being somewhat "cold," but most assume that
this probably comes from their cultural tendency to insulate themselves,
both from the elements and from outsiders.
Surprisingly, the town of Görbén is a relatively bustling
center of commerce on this otherwise unyielding & harsh frontier.
It is a lonely outpost, situated on the only navigable bay along
the rocky shores of the Great Icy Ocean. Although it's the largest
town in the Barony of Gönham, it's still just a frontier
town in the northeastern wilderness outskirts of the sprawling
Kingdom of Bráhüm. Goods come here from many far-off
lands and ships from Görbén take products from Gönham
to ports around the world.
Sailing vessels make their way into the Shallow Sea from the Icy
Ocean with help from the lighthouses built along the cliffs.
Most people in Görbén (like all those who live along
the shoreline) make their living from the sea - fishing, processing
or selling seafood, etc. The majority of the others are in some
area of merchant trade, probably wholesale.
There are also several seasonal bazaars that are popular, where
fishermen trade their goods for products from the farmers in the
Gönham Plains. There are, in fact, several delicacies grown
in the Gönham Plains that are sought after in other parts
of the world & are only available in Görbén, and only
seasonally. The Alorantia Mushroom is one such prized food, said
to give extra verility to those who eat it.
Across
the Shallow Sea to the north of Gönham are the lands of the
giants - Maloria. Beyond that is the polar ice cap. In ancient
times, the Bráish kings warred with the giants and Bráish
Barons have a long history of skirmishes with giant clans, but
hostilities haven't flared for nearly a century. As such, settlers
have begun to move back into the outlying areas of the Barony
of Gönham. The river basins and other areas throughout the
Gönham Plains are once again being cultivated by Bráish
farmers, who look to their lord or Overtloord for protection from
any random giant raid or attack from the savage hordes of the
Barbaron Hills. Görbén once again has become a major
trade hub, with all kinds of goods flowing through the town to
reach the Kingdom of Bankor and other markets beyond the Untamed
Lands to the west. It's not a major city, but it is growing and
a lot of wholesale business is done here.
Since the founding of the original Kingdom of Brá Hüm
millennia ago, magic has been strictly "verboten" under
Bráish law. The noble houses of Brá have always
believed that the use of magic for the purposes of men was against
the laws of nature & therefore inherently evil. This does
not apply, of course, to the miraculous works performed
by the Priests of Odin or the clerics of other Bráish deities,
including Freya, Thor, Balder, Loki, etc. These feats are the
will & works of the gods, not men, after all.
When the Bráish kings of old expanded their realm in the
First Age (and it became the Bráish Empire,) their anti-magic
policies spread with them. Today, the Old Kingdom is known as
Nër Bráhüm, the "Heart of the Empire,"
and most of the lands conquered in that First Age are now baronies
under the king's rule. The old laws about magic are strictly enforced
in Nër Bráhüm & in the baronies closest to
the Bráish heartland, but on the ever-dangerous frontier
of Gönham, the status quo is to live & let live. If magic
makes life here any easier, so be it. Imprisonment for the use
of magic is almost unheard of here, though technically enforceable
under the old Bráish laws. In fact, about a week's ride
to the southwest of Görbén stands a growing shantytown
known as the "Shacks," where numerous magic-users have set up
shop and sell key material goods essential to mages. Of course,
most of them also take on apprentices and teach their arts, which
has created a mage community. The Shacks stand in the bottom of
the crater of an ancient meteor impact and are thus hidden from
plain view at a distance. It is rumored that some of the mages
tap some ancient power there as well. In nearby areas of the vast
Gönham Plains, several mages have established strongholds
in outright defiance of the distant Bráish monarch. The
area has become known as the"Wizard Lands" (or,
in Bráish, "Küpál.")

Early
Campaign History [1983-'84]
[1983]
On their first adventure together in the spring of 11333,
Amblinon, Salád
& Twinkle explored a small island just off the coast west
of Görbén, searching for a fabled ring. They encountered
a gargoyle, a tiger & a renegade fire giant, but it was the
stone golem that ended their efforts early. Amblinon was crushed
and the others had to take his body back to town to be resurrected,
at a hefty price. While Amblinon healed, Salád
& Twinkle trained for over a week & then they went back,
This time, Salád
dislocated both his shoulders & wound up deaf for several
weeks. Still, they defeated a group of mummies, found the "Ring
of Life" and gathered a sizeable amount of gold & silver,
along with a nice chest plate for Amblinon, who began to really
like the look & feel of wearing shiny armor. Amblinon, Salád
& Twinkle found that they worked well together and they decided
to continue their profitable association. Shortly after this adventure,
Salád
invested a truesilver ring with a"Flash of Light" spell,
set to go off at the word "Revox."
After
further training, they vanquished some undead from an abandoned
estate house up the coast from Görbén. Once again,
they had to bring Amblinon back for resurrection.
The
"Wizard Lands"
Even
in these earliest days, Amblinon already wanted to be a knight
of Bráhüm. To accomplish this, he felt he needed to
do something notable to the Bráish nobility. The task that
most readily presented itself was to rid the Gonham Plains of
the "evil" wizards who had established strongholds in
the Küpál. The king considered this nothing
less than an invasion by outlaws, but didn't have the resources
to do much about it so far out on the frontier. Enter young
Amblinon.
At
the same time, Amblinon realized the benefit of having an adept
along on adventures. He took Salád
to the Shacks because the illusionist would need resources for
magical ingredients and perhaps a teacher from whom he could learn
new spells. Having grown up in the area, Amblinon knew of the
huge ancient crater southwest of Görbén, and of the
shantytown located inside it, where merchants traded in the tools
& material ingredients of the magical craft. He knew that magic
was technically against the law, but that law didn't stretch far
into the Küpál. The two young adventurers would soon
become frequent visitors to this community of mages.
Amblinon
& Salád,
with the occasional help of Twinkle & Duulth (a rebellious
hill giant from the the Buttes) continued to explore the Wizard
Lands. They investigated the "black grass" and found
it to be the result of an evil Black Mage who had taken up residence.
They disposed of him with due haste, then
investigated
the burning tree & explored the notorious Endless Pit.
It
was during this exploration of the Küpál that Amblinon,
along with Duulth, discovered something that would change Amblinon's
whole outlook on the subject of magic. He had never had any desire
to learn the magical arts because he felt his battle axes were
enough, but then he discovered two large hemispheres of solid
gray onyx on the Gönham Plains near the Shacks. He &
Duulth explored the structure, which they found to be the stronghold
of a Mind Mage. When he realized that magic could expand a person's
mental powers in this way, Amblinon decided to explore the College
of Magics of the Mind. He found a teacher at the Shacks and soon,
he was casting mind reading spells and using telekinesis.
[02/19/84]
Amblinon, Salád
& Twinkle vanquished
an air mage who had created a pyramid of ice in the "Wizard Lands."
He was processing & distributing the crystalline narcotic cuviel
("the awakening crystal") without paying the appropriate taxes
to the Baron and the Bráish King. On the way to the Ice
Pyramid, Salád
got a chance to try out his new "Flash of Light" ring.
The very first time he ever used it, the spell backfired, blinding
him in the middle of a melee with baboons. After killing the mage
who lived in the pyramid, they received 2,000sp from the Baron
for their service to Brahûm.

For
King & Country [1984-'85]
The
Silent Tower
Din
Ter (the "Silent Tower") had been a Bráish stronghold
centuries ago in a war against the Kingdom of Llofall. It had
been carved into the face of a sheer cliff at the end of the long,
narrow Ered Atin range, the "backbone" of the Bráish Empire.
Since that long-forgotten war, the outpost had been abandoned
and people started telling tales of powerful undead who had assumed
residence there.
c.
11336 - At the behest of the Bráish
King, Amblinon & Salád journeyed to Din Ter and confronted
all the dark creatures that had infested the abandoned stronghold
for centuries. They encountered ghosts and battled skeletons,
zombies & other minor undead before getting to the self-proclaimed
ruler of Din Ter, a wraith. They vanquished the wraith and cleared
the stronghold of undead, allowing the Bráish king to use
it as an outpost once again. This had become necessary due to
the increasing number of dragon attacks from the Delsen Hills
directly to the west. Salád then spent time practicing
his troubadour skills and training with his Investment ritual,
which allowed him to create magic-invested items with 4 charges,
such as his "Hey Guy" gold earring (which created an
illusory warrior [as seen on the cover of the DragonQuest 2nd
Ed. book]) and his "Bazonkers" boomerang (which screamed
like an eagle as it whirled through the air.)
The
Valley of Shadows
Joined
once again by Twinkle the elf, Amblinon & Salád then
traveled to the Valley of Shadows on the southern side of the
Ered Atin. There, they faced orcs on shadow-winged wolves and
ogres with sabretooth cats. They also acquired several dark magical
items among the treasures they brought home. These included an
"Animate Dead" amulet, a "Shadow Form" cloak,
a black prism of power, and a black ring of "Shadow Daggers."
In the end, the shadows were lifted over the valley and the 3
adventurers were sung as heroes in the local towns and across
the kingdom.
After
this, Salád studied alchemy and sought out a teacher to
broaden his range in casting illusions. He visited the Shacks
& saw Lo Far O' Quinton& Lore Master Far Lo Boon, where
he learned to create tactile illusions and began to develop specialty,
multi-sensory illusions. He then decided he wanted a warhorse
and found out that the best place to get one (where the breed
was originated) was in the Barony of Palmar.
To
Palmar for Warhorses
Salád
met up with Amblinon (and Duulth?) and they traveled east from
Görbén. Early in their journey, they explored an ancient
Fire Giant temple. They battled fire elementals & fire giants,
and received 3 wishes from an Efreeti. They went through the town
of Kest and did some trading, where Salád acquired a diamond-edged
boomerang. Along the road from there to Terin Bráhöl,
they encountered centaurs, a sasquatch and a frost giant. Then
they dealt with Krumbly the Earth Mage in the Dirstenflach ("drylands.")
After
leaving there, they were ambushed by gnolls, but killed them and
split up treasure before finally arriving in Terin Bráhöl,
where they saw the great viaduct/aquaduct structure that spans
the valley between the 2 great mountain ranges there.
From
there, they traveled 5 days to the south-southeast toward the
Barony of Palmar. They met the "Zilch Man" in his forest
palace & helped set a trap for a minotaur. To make up for
lost time, they then used Amblinon's cloak to teleport just inside
the Barony of Palmar, where they found some good warhorses &
bargained with Bow-Legged Jim to train & care for them (Jim
negotiated for a colt after 1 year.)
[08/28/84]
- Amblinon & Salád battled an efreeti & 2 fire
giants, then deactivated a pillar of fire. Amblinon tunneled in
with a magic item and telekinetically retrieved a magic globe.
They then returned to Görbén and bartered for more
magic items to give them control over water mammals & the
ability to breathe under water.

Krakletop
Mountain
[01/13/85]
- Salád,
Amblinon & Duulth, joined by Kirsha from Llofall, then journeyed
to Krackletop Mountain in southeast Gönham (part of the Ered
Atin.) Along the way, they encountered tigers and fought demon
dogs. Salád
was gravely injured and required Amblinon's "Healing"
spell. After stopping off at a nobleman's keep to acquire a "Bag
of Holding," they encountered a giant bat. As they approached
Krakletop, they took breaths from a magic bellows, giving them
the effect of a "Wind Walk" spell. As they flew up to
the peak of the mountain, they were attacked by gryphons, one
of which shredded Salád's
armor. At the clearing atop Krakletop, they battled a centaur
with a lesser rune blade scimitar. Salád
used "Shadowform" to offset the fact that he had no
armor. More gryphons arrived, but then the real threat entered
the melee - a medusa. The heroes wound up with her head in the
bag of holding. Salád
took the centaur's rune-blade scimitar and the party also acquired
a "Mind Cloak" helm & a wand of "ID Liquid."
When they had finished, they left by way of a summoned ice/ghost
ship and incinërated the medusa's head. Afterward, Salád
gave Amblinon an amulet invested with "Mirror Image"
and Kirsha gave them 6 wands.
The
Slavers' Aerie
c.
11337 - By this time, the Bráish
king had taken notice of Amblinon, Salád & even the
hill giant who fought alongside them. Normally, King Brá
would have dismissed even the notion of recognizing a giant's
contributions, but this one was different. He had been of service
to Bráhüm at Krakletop and the king felt an obligation
to give him the chance to prove his loyalties. [01/27/85]
King Brá summoned the 3 adventurer/heroes to Terin Bráhöl
and tasked them with investigating a band of outlaws who were
abducting people & selling them into slavery. These slavers
were believed to be gnolls and to have established an aerie near
the Aztuk Sea. The king sent 4 Bráish men-at-arms with
the party for extra manpower.
Once
there, the party fought a group of gnolls, some of whom shot crossbow
quarrels at them. Salád was hit, but it didn't stop him
from slicing their leader with his diamond-edged boomerang. After
healing up from this melee, they all took a breath from the magic
bellows and flew on to the slavers' aerie. There, they battled
more gnolls, casting "Fireball" spells from a magic
opal & "Bolt of Fire" spells from a ring. Eventually,
they reached the gnoll-king, Wimpelfrimp, in his throne room.
He wore silver bracers and daggers on his belt. Sheathed in custom
slots on his throne were more ceremonial daggers. Salád
cast a triple-effect phantasmal armor spell and used a cloak of
"Shadow Form." He also projected an intense nightmare
vision upon Wimpelfrimp & his honor guard. Exploring the gnoll-king's
lavish quarters, they discovered a false wall, behind which they
found treasure, including a chest full of gold, a pouch full of
gems & 6 potions. They also discovered the entrance to a long
cavern. It took 7 hours of marching to traverse the cavern, after
which they found themselves coming out near the city of Süderham.
They
entered the city disguised as Wimpelfrimp & his servant (Duulth
was invisible.) They quickly sought out the "Ivory Paladin"
and found the white knight in a bar. Later, they got a 5gp-a-night
room at the "Sign of the Rose," but they slipped out
during the night ["Hogan's Heroes"-style, according
to Devo.] Returning to the caverns, they encountered minotaurs
with silvered battleaxes and more gnolls. [02/85
thru 04/85] A previously-enslaved wench named Fria showed
them where the minotaurs kept their treasure, which included gems,
magic dust & a human skull.
Deciding
to avoid an apparent maze, Salad & Duulth climbed a set of
wooden stairs, only to be confronted by giant lizards. After dispensing
with them, they explored the gnoll complex further & found
some high-level illusionist books. Eventually, they found their
way back to the gnoll-king's lavish sleeping quarters, where they
rested.
Upon
waking, they explored other nice sleeping quarters nearby &
found more treasure, but they were chased out by more gnolls.
On their way, they encountered a shambling mound, collected even
more treasure & actually captured a gelatinous cube. Eventually,
they caught up with Amblinon just outside a door. As soon as they
all entered the door, they were gassed & knocked unconscious.
[05/04/85]
They woke up in a rocky, water-filled seashore cavern, along with
(ex-slave & ranger) Fria and a thief named Blodget. Unfortunaely,
none of them had any possessions & they were wearing only
loincloths. The only way out was through the water and just slipping
around a corNër & going out of sight, they caught a glimpse
of a boat that looked like a water dragon. Salád
created an illusory battleaxe for Amblinon & silenced the
cavern with a sound-nullifying spell. Then they all successfully
swam out & to shore, although some of them were snapped by
the giant crabs. They approached the water-dragon boat, which
was now moored at a dock. Salád
used ventriloquism to help distract the crew as the party moved
in to attack. They discovered that the crew included a drow monk
who knew how to kick. Wild acrobatics & sweeping kicks ensued
and Duulth was mortally wounded. Ultimately, however, the party
was triumphant. They soon made their way to the cabins below,
where they found much of their belongings, including some much-needed
healing potions/scrolls. They used what
they had to help preserve Duulth's body, but they did not have
the ability to bring the giant back to life, so they needed to
get him to a high-ranking healer.
After everyone collected their stuff, Amblinon used magic globes
of "Summon & Bind Water Creature" to call a giant
squid to the ship.
The
party then made their way back to Terin Bráhöl, where
they delivered Duulth's body to a master healer. Regardless of
the extraordinary efforts made to resurrect him, the giant's constitution
just wasn't strong enough for the healer to bring him back. Still,
the party received accolades from the king, who noted that Duulth
had given his life for the kingdom & would be honored for
that. Salád
parlayed a pair of magic elven boots for a lamp with a djinni.
He wished for better natural agility & it was granted[+5.]

Magical
Roots [1985]
Salád
(& Amblinon?) then traveled back to the Shacks to practice
magic spells (& learn new ones.) However, the Shacks had been
flooded and it wasn't exactly convenient to stay there. Some unknown
force had altered the course of a river, re-routing it into the
large crater in which the Shacks stood. One good thing, though,
was that all the shops were having a Flood Sale and magic items
were 30%-off. Salád spent the next few weeks practicing
spells, but he also spent time learning a smattering of skills,
including acrobatics.
Amblinon
looked into the reason for the change in the river's course &
found it to be purposely done. He used all his telekinetic powers
to correct the course of the river so that it once again bypassed
the crater & the Shacks. In honor of this heroic deed, the
locals changed the name of the river, which is known as the Amblin
River to this day.

The
Undiscovered Roots of Thaumaturgy
When
he had finished his training, Salád once again sought out
Amblinon and learned that he was in the "Untamed Lands"
west of Gönham, searching for the Roots of Thaumaturgy. He
happened upon Amblinon & Sandor out of sheer luck, and soon
they found themselves in the clutches of a giant worm. After escaping
that predicament, they encountered some lizard men, who put a
curse on Amblinon. Salád
drove the lizard men away in fear using a "Fitful Fright"
spell and Amblinon's curse was quickly removed. One of the lizard
men had a glowing trident, which they collected.
They
traveled onward by horseback (through the Savage Lowlands?) until
they reached the steep mountains of the Dirbain range. When the
horses could no longer continue, they climbed on foot as far as
they could. After encountering & fighting a giant tarantula,
they used a magic item to cast "Shadow Wings," giving
them flight. As the party neared a bridge, Salád created
an illusory disguise for himself, appearing as a gnome. Soon,
they approached a sphinx and Amblinon battled telekinetically
with it. Afterward, they searched the area, including a fountain,
& found half an ioun stone & several weapons, along with
a secret door. However, in the process, Salád was smacked
hard by a golem and they were attacked & stabbed by ice creatures.
Then Amblinon & Salád took on a white dragon and subdued
it. It's name was "Tahi" and they bound it to serve
Amblinon for 5 years (which would be extended to 25 years?)

The
Giant Wars
[1985-'87]
c.11338
- All the giant clans of Maloria, pooling all their elemental
influences, began an intense campaign of heavy rains, ice storms,
earthquakes & volcanic eruptions on the penninsula connecting
the giant lands to the Nörslunds of Bráhüm. As
their northernmost villages were ravaged, the Viking clans of
the Nörslunds immediately took this as an act of war &
began raiding Malorian towns. Before the year was out, much of
the penninsula was under water or magma & a new series of
Bráish-Malorian wars had begun in earnest. By the end of
the decade (11340,) the geography
of the region had been drastically changed forever. Years of pummeling
by the elements had left no land connection remaining and Maloria
was now a separate continent. The Shallow Sea was now open at
both ends, west & east. Furthermore, there was no end in sight
to hostilities between the warring nations, even with thousands
dead on both sides.
c.11341
- Amblinon & Salád
infiltrated Maloria on several missions for King Brá. [10/30/85]
On their first mission, they escorted a Priest of Thor into the
foothills near
the stone giant town of Bedrock,
where they established a temple. [02/13/87
- 03/31/87]Then, with the help of Rorq, a renegade cloud
giant, they reconnoitered near the cloud giant city of Hûka,
where they spied a buildup of cloud-sailing war galleys. They
even attacked one galley and raided the captain's cabin for treasure.
Then, they investigated an island and found an underwater fortress
housing 60-80 frost & stone giants. Amblinon summoned a Kraken
& flooded the giants out, capturing some of the lieutenants
for questioning. Once back at the Temple to Thor, they helped
fend off a charge by frost giants, then trained for 2 weeks.
[04/29/87]
At the request of Thor himself, Amblinon, Salád
& Rorq traveled to the Northern Ices and battled a titan.
They each received a "Hammer of Thor" magic weapon (especially
enchanted against giant-kind) for the battle. They used the saucer
of skrying to find their destination & teleported to the titan's
keep. Once there, they pounded a storm giant guard with their
magic hammers, encountered sea monsters & polar bears, and
investigated the titan's alchemy lab. Eventually, they found the
titan in his altar and a giant (no pun intended) battle ensued.
Salád
used a "Polymorph Self" spell to become "Suction
Salád."
When the battle was over, the titan was dead and the heroes collected
their treasure.
Knighted
as Lords
As
reward for defeating the titan, as well as for all their other
heroic deeds in Maloria, both Amblinon & Salád
were knighted by the king and offered a wealthy estate in the
Barony of Gonham. Amblinon
accepted a castle on the rocky cliffs on the shores of the Great
Icy Ocean, and lands that would include the dark grey onyx Hemispheres
which once inspired him to take up the study of Magics of the
Mind. (Salád
chose to respectfully decline the land? or was granted an estate
for which he hired caretakers?)
c.11342
- Due in part to the successes of Amblinon, Salad & Rorq,
the Giant Wars ended with giants retreating to Maloria.

The
Dragon Wars [1987]
c.
11344 - '363 - The Bráish
King decided to station a special brigade of knights at Din Ter
(once cleared
of undead by Amblinon & Salád)
due to the increasing frequency of dragon attacks on the outlying
villages in both Gönham and the Barony of Eblerhüm (which
lies south of the Ered Atin.) This special unit, comprised of
the very finest knights in the King's service, stood a vigilant
watch and engaged any dragon entering Bráish lands. Just
below them wound the lonely north-south road which here marked
the far western border of their king's realm. However, the primary
focus of their concern arose just a dozen miles westward. Those
scorched and barren highlands were earning their own new name
- the Dragon Hills. The stronghold at Din Terbecame known as Terin
Drakül.
Amblinon
was recruited by the Baron Von Gönham to join the Dragon
Knights stationed at Terin Drakül. Some RoachKings
then became involved in the so-called "Dragon Wars" between the
western Baronies of Bráhüm (Gönham & Eblerhüm)
and the invading hordes of dragons from the Delsen Hills. Kendril,
Shady & Raal became well-known for standing beside the mighty
Dragon Knights of Bráhüm (such as Sir Amblinon) during
several dragon attacks on the keep at Terin Drakül.
For his service to the Baron Von Ebler during this time, Kendril
was knighted Sir Kendril Longstride of Eblerhüm.
Amblinon
probably went on several dragon hunts with RoachKings during this
period.

Late April, 11353 - Amblinon &
Rorq aided RKs Kendril, Shady & By-Tor when they returned
to Castle Kendril (after the Starbridge adventures) to drive out
the dragon that had taken up residence.
Okt
'353 - Ozone & Rorq visited the Plane of Air through a nexus,
(retrieving?) the Star of Bali.
[11/87]
Okt '353 - DZ joined the other RKs & they traveled with Amblinon
to Greybark and then to Highbrow, where the RoachKings (Shady,
Kendril, By-Tor & DZ with Amblinon?) played for the Viscount.
Then they move on to Hold O'Pey, where they played for Duke Llancy.
With their gigs under their belts, the RKs traveled to Nogar's
Canyon in the N. Topeka Wilds & dealt with some evil druids.
Then it was back to Castle Kendril to discuss Antoros before heading
back to PI for the rest of the year.
[12/20/87]
21 Feib 11354 - Amblinon traveled
to the RoachKings' island in the sky, Pasadena, and then journeyed
with RKs DZ & Quandrony to Kel Ket. After a battle in which
he fought beside Quandrony, he then teleported back to PI &
home.

alternate location. A couple days later, Kendril, Draken (&
others) took off for Kal Terin, heading through Tasep's Gap. On
the western slopes of the Dirbain Mtns., they encountered a nest
of gargoyles. Now joined by Raal & Rorq, they took care of
the gargoyles and camped on the Silverway in the High Forest,
then traveled over to New Antoros, where they were met by an escort.
They
had dinner with Kal-El at Kal Terin, then traveled to the port
of Sefar. During this travel time, Raal left and flew to the Untamed
Lands Assassin Guild; he found Grindri wandering in the Wilds
of the Untamed Lands, and met George (of the Jungle?.) Meanwhile,
from Sefar, the other RKs sailed to Pelturf along with Red Beard
(on BT's ship?) In April, from Pelturf (now joined by By-Tor,
Shady, Amblinon & Won Tallah Han) the RoachKings traveled
east and encountered some brigands. Traveling north into the southern
regions of Qressan, the RKs ambushed some policemen & took
their place. Rorq-sponge then joined Raal in the Untamed Lands.
The RKs traveled north, deeper into Qressan, to Castle Claudee,
and ended up using a teleport pad to get out. They then flew south
at high altitude to the Crimson Castle, where they (Kendril, Shady
& By-Tor with Amblinon & Rorq) "roached" the
House of the Crimson King before returning to Kal Terin on 5 April
354.
Meanwhile,
"Rorq-Sponge" appeared with Raal, Grindri and George;
they all shadow-walked to Castle Kendril on 4 April. They adventured
in the area for a day or so, encountered the "Blue Rider"
nearby, as well as a stone giant, then returned to Castle Kendril.
Raal shadow-walked to PI, picked up Quandrony, then they all shadow-walked
to Bourgn. From there, they explored lost caverns beneath the
Dirba Mtns, encountered a manticore, and met Skrimit (Quandrony
is no longer with the party.) They encountered a dragon, camped
overnight, and then had another encounter at a pool of acid. After
this, Raal & Grindri shadow-walked to the "Shacks"
and back (probably for healing & more potions.) They encountered
large fishes in the mote, but still managed to demolish the Tower
of Terin Dirba, "the Fuhren's Mountain," and shadow-walk
out, leaving an RK symbol in cloud of dust the sky. So the Crimson
Castle and Terin Dirba were destroyed on the same day,
5 April 11354.

Roots:
the Return [06/22/88]
Salád
(along with Tahi) traveled with RoachKings DZ
& Ozone on a trip to Al Qam, Salád's home realm in
the south. By the end of April, '354, they returned to Ker Thom
to take another peak at the Roots of Thaumaturgy. They battled
lizard men (& held their shaman hostage,) encountered gargoyles,
and experienced a lot of "Altered Reality." While they
investigated some teleport pads, DZ disappeared & Shadowstorm
appeared in his stead. Later, they fought some iron-golem "hell
dogs." Eventually, they found themselves in a Hall of Changing
Reality, which convinced them to exit the dungeon and left them
wondering about their "purpose" for going there in the
first place.
[06/26/88]
Okt '354 - Rorq traveled with Kendril, By-Tor & Quandrony
to Bourgn & to the Frosty Fords, where they encountered some
blue dragons.
On
the full moon of 1 Nov 11354, Shady & By-Tor made a trip to
a silver dragon's castle with Rorq. The 2 RKs wound up with a
geas on them, Rorq wasn't seen until the following spring. Later
that month, By-Tor, Shady & Kendril went on a shopping spree
at the Shacks. Also in Nov., Raal traveled to the Temple of Kuan
Yin in Samuso.
[07/24/88]
May 11355 - Amblinon,
Tamara & Rorq
joined RoachKings By-Tor, Shady & Kendril and explored the
"Lost Isle of Materhatrix" with Conan.

To
Another Galaxy [1988-'89]
Öen
11356 - Lord Amblinon joined RoachKings
Shadowstorm & By-Tor and traveled to the
Barown Galaxy. He went as an official representative of the Bráish
King, to help establish official diplomatic relations between
their home world of Lia and the Solar Federation of Planets [11/88.]
They starbridged directly to Memory Alpha, arriving in February
of the year 2271, according to the 'Old Earth Calendar.' They
met the Commander of Memory Alpha, Jules Karinar, and Ambassadors
Sulek, Ckraig & Zora Laang from Vulcan, Andor & Alpha
Centauri respectively. They then began months of diplomatic meetings,
negotiations & pageantry with the Federation.
Federation
Starfleet Service [1989]
After
months of diplomatic liaisons and treaty meetings, Amblinon, By-Tor
and Shadowstorm were given full diplomatic status. In the fall
of 2271 OEC (Augst 11356 Lian date,) they were allowed to enter
Starfleet Academy in a cultural/information exchange program.
Some Federation diplomats traveled to the RKs' home world, also;
the Priests of Celestian processed their papers and they did some
limited traveling to other ports on Lia, investigating the use
of magic & magic items. Through this program, the Lians would
receive advanced training at Starfleet and in return, the UFP
would gain the unique insights of these "magical" beings
in the starship exploration service for several years.

"Ragnarok
& Roll" and Beyond [1989]
It
was during his commission in Starfleet, just after the Ronis I
incident (April 11363 Lian date,)
that Amblinon was called to service once again by his god, Thor,
and he joined in the battle of "Ragnarok & Roll."
Of course, the RKs went along with him; By-Tor & Shady
taking leave from Starfleet midway through their Cadet Cruise.
They were transported by Thor to Asgard and tasked with finding
the 3 pieces of Galactus that had been scattered to separate outer
dimensions by a cosmic cube. The resultant chaos in the universe
was bringing about the Ragnarok battle on the Rainbow bridge before
its time. The RKs & Amblinon traveled to various dimensions,
including Hades, and recombined the 3 pieces of Galactus.
Galactus,
however, was immediately taken by Death and imprisoned on the
first level of the Nine Hells, with Tiamat & her entourage
guarding the cage. All RKs, et al, were returned to Asgard by
Thor.
Home
to Lia
[05/28/89]
Draken, seeking to scrye the Draörnbre Forest & Pasadena
Island in his Crystal of VIsion, saw a tornado but no PI, and
became worried. Thor then sent all the Lians back to PI on Lia
(By-Tor, Shady & Amblinon could have been sent to the Federation,
but opted to "pop" home shortly first.) "The Tellarite
officer" (Sak Tunder?) went home to the UFP.
The
Lians found their world to be chaotic. The Bráish Empire
was divided into small kingdoms at war with giants, orc/hobgoblin
armies & dragons. Volcanoes had sprung up in the northern
region of Bankor, where the new Fuhren was warring on New Antoros
in the south. Elves had sealed the High Elven forests once again.
Llofal was divided & warring internally & with the dragons.
The south had not been heard from much, but the word was that
"evil grows once more" there. The RoachKings only then
realized that they could have asked Galactus to restore all the
effects caused by the chaos, but they had chosen selfish power
instead.
Technology
above the level of a crossbow would not function; the mechs were
fused. By-Tor asked Kendril to enchant a mace with density alteration
(making it weigh a ton) & Ozone put a rune on it.
Pasadena
Island had been moved to the mountains near Kar Tola. Quandrony's
family had cut off communications "because of security concerns."
(22-23
En Mon 11363?) - Before returning to the Federation to complete
his Starfleet duty, Amblinon flew on dragons with Rorq to Ker
Thom (the "Roots of Thaumaturgy") & released Tahi
in her own abode. (He then used a teleport? to return to the Federation?)
The
RKs (and Amblinon?) then decided to return to the Celestian Temple
in the Twilite Zone. They sailed for 2 weeks to reach By-Tor's
old home port of Palatin, then went on to the Lesi Nais.
Back
to Starfleet
[12/03/89]
Feib 11365 - The Priests of Celestian
asked the RoachKings to become a team of interstellar troubleshooters,
but the RKs declined. (Amblinon?) Shady & By-Tor used Ozone's
Runestick to teleport back to Delta Vega to complete their Starfleet
service.
For
3 months, Amblinon served aboard the USS Niwen along
with Shady & By-Tor, while they finished their Cadet Cruises.
During this time, the Lians were involved in the investigation
of a secret Romulan base that had been abandoned. By-Tor &
Amblinon were then promoted to Lieutenant (Junior Grade) and all
3 served aboard the USS LaFayette under Cpt. Sak Tunder
for the remainder of their Starfleet service.

[1990]
Amblinon resigned his commission in Starfleet as a Lt. (JG) &
returned to Lia in the summer of 2281 (May11366
Lia date,) at the age of 51. By-Tor remained in Starfleet for
an additional year, Shady for 2 years.
After
returning to his home world from the UFP in the Barown Galaxy,
Lord Amblinon Von Küpál, the
White Dragon Knight of Gönham,
settled down to live out the rest of his life with Lady Tamara
in their glistening white cliffside castle on the rocky coast
of the Icy Ocean. As the overseer of his own realm along
the borders of the new Barony of Küpál, Amblinon collected
taxes for the Baron & continued to study the magical arts
of the mind
until he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 in 11375.

The
Present [2002-present]
Salád
continued to travel the world, always learning new customs &
styles everywhere he went. There was word that he even became
an insurance salesman for a while, but that was never substantiated.
Eventually, he decided to attend one of the legendary parties
at Pasadena, the floating island in the sky known the world over
as the home of the RoachKings. In 11369,
he traveled to Pasadena Island for the RoachKings' 30th Anniversary
concert & festival. He wound up going on a trip with the RKs
to the Point of Know Return. This adventure took Salád
around the world and led to his officially joining the RoachKings.
The tale is recounted on page 2 of the RoachKings
Campaign.
